Fit in Outside
"We are the environment." This concept drives my monochromatic drawings of Aotearoa's forestscapes, dismantling the belief that humanity exists apart from nature. Through every brush mark, dot and line, I explore our deep-rooted connection to the land we call home, contemplating our place within the living world.
Drawings - Guide by Light
An Eye for Nile, 76.2×76.2cm, ink drawing on canvas
Instead of traditionally drawing shading in an image, I choose to only draw the light. Then, what is in the shade is left to the viewer's imagination. Even though I work with pigment ink and acrylics on canvas, I prefer to categorise my works as drawings. The drawings are created with marked dashes and lines to build up a landscape that fills the space, taking out the sky and overwhelming the surface, putting the viewer in a state of forest bathing. Getting in amongst it.
